Hello
I’m Carla Molliner, and I'm honored to serve as a Board Director for the Wings to Freedom Foundation. For more than 20 years, I have dedicated my career to caring for patients, supporting families through critical moments, and helping communities navigate some of the most complex medical challenges. As a nationally certified physician assistant — with nearly two decades of specialized experience in hepatology at the University of Miami — I’ve spent my life committed to service, healing, and compassionate leadership.
Today, I serve as an integral part of the hospital medicine team at UM Tower, where I manage a group of advanced practice providers, support PA students as a preceptor, and help guide clinical excellence across our APP council. Whether treating patients, mentoring future clinicians, or supporting interdisciplinary teams, my purpose has always been clear: to ensure that every person receives the care, dignity, and attention they deserve.
Joining Wings to Freedom allows me to extend that commitment beyond the hospital walls and support survivors as they rebuild their lives with safety, strength, and hope.
My Story
My journey in medicine began with a desire to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Over the past 20 years, that calling has guided my path through some of the most impactful and challenging areas of patient care. For 19 of those years, I served in the hepatology division at the University of Miami, working alongside leading experts and caring for patients facing complex liver diseases.
During that time, I was honored to receive the NP/PA Clinical Hepatology Fellowship from the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease (AASLD), a formative experience that strengthened my clinical expertise and deepened my commitment to excellence in patient care.
As my leadership responsibilities grew, I stepped into expanded roles within the hospital system — becoming an APP manager, serving as secretary for the APP council, and mentoring PA students as a preceptor. Today, I oversee a team of nine APPs and help guide the care of medically complex patients admitted to UM Tower. These roles have allowed me to support not only patients, but also the next generation of medical professionals.
I’ve also had the privilege of presenting at numerous conferences — including GHAPP, GastroHealth, the local FAPA chapter, and UM APP rounds — sharing knowledge, elevating standards of care, and contributing to professional development across the field.
But beyond the clinical work and leadership roles, what has always driven me is compassion. I have seen firsthand how trauma, instability, and lack of support can impact a person’s health and future. That understanding is what draws me to the mission of Wings to Freedom. Survivors deserve advocacy. They deserve safety. They deserve a path toward healing, both physically and emotionally.
Through this foundation, I hope to use my voice, experience, and heart for service to empower survivors as they reclaim their freedom and rebuild their lives with dignity and strength.
Carla
