Hello

My name is Lorelei Wydra, and I am honored to a Board Director for the Wings to Freedom Foundation. At my core, I’m someone who believes in strength with compassion, discipline with purpose, and using my voice to help others rise.

Wrestling shaped much of who I am — eight years of commitment, long practices, early mornings, and learning to push past limits. I earned 4th place at the state level in high school, then continued competing in college, placing 3rd at nationals my freshman year and 4th my sophomore year. Those years taught me perseverance and resilience, values that continue to guide me today.

I’m currently completing my degree in Criminal Justice because I believe in creating safer communities and contributing to a more just future. And that commitment is also why the mission of Wings to Freedom means so much to me. Having witnessed domestic violence up close, I understand the importance of support, safety, and healing — and I’m dedicated to helping survivors find all three.

My Story

My path to the Wings to Freedom Foundation is rooted in both personal experience and a deep desire to stand with those who are rebuilding their lives.

Although wrestling taught me how to be strong on the mat, life taught me what true strength looks like. I have witnessed domestic violence firsthand and lived alongside someone who was experiencing it. Seeing that kind of pain up close — the fear, the uncertainty, the way it changes the energy inside a home — shaped me in ways I will never forget. It opened my eyes to how many people are silently fighting battles that no one sees.

Those experiences didn’t just make me aware — they made me committed. Committed to advocacy. Committed to healing. Committed to creating safe spaces where survivors are supported, believed, and empowered.

As I continue my education in Criminal Justice, my goal is to be someone who not only understands the systems that impact survivors, but also works to improve them. I want to help build pathways to safety and new beginnings, especially for those who feel they have nowhere to turn.

Joining Wings to Freedom allows me to channel my resilience, my voice, and my lived experiences toward something bigger — helping survivors find strength, freedom, and hope again. It’s not just a role for me. It’s a purpose I carry with both pride and compassion.
