Hello
My name is Yasira (Sara) Tejada, and I serve as the Director of Survivor Services for the Wings to Freedom Foundation. I am honored to stand with this mission and to help uplift survivors as they rebuild their lives with strength, dignity, and independence.
I am also a nurse. Nursing taught me something I now carry into every part of this work: people in danger rarely arrive ready to say so. What they need first is someone who notices, and who makes it safe to speak.

My Story
My connection to this work is both professional and personal. I am a survivor of human trafficking and domestic violence.
I know what it is to have your movements, your relationships, and your sense of what is possible decided by someone else. I also know what it takes to come back from that — time, safety, and people who refuse to look away.
That is part of why I became a nurse. Healthcare is one of the few places a person may pass through while they are still in danger, and often it is the only contact they have with the outside world. A clinician who has been trained to recognize the signs can change the entire course of someone's life. A clinician who hasn't may never know who was standing in front of them.
Human trafficking and domestic violence survive on silence and isolation. I am committed to bringing both into the light, not as statistics, but as something that happens to real people who deserve to be met with dignity rather than judgment.
I use my story, my training, and my platform to educate, support, and encourage others who are moving from survival to thriving.
Joining the Wings to Freedom Foundation is an extension of that commitment. Here, I have the privilege of walking alongside survivors directly, helping shape trauma-informed, survivor-centered programs, and making sure the people we serve have a voice in the services built for them. It is a role I carry with gratitude and purpose.
Beyond My Role
My vision is a community where survivors are recognized early, supported fully, and never asked to prove they are worth helping. I believe that when people are met with knowledge, compassion, and real resources, they can rise above circumstances that once held them back.
I am proud to serve alongside this foundation and to contribute to a world where survivors have the resources, respect, and opportunity they deserve.
